Return to Play Study conducted by Grand Park Sports Campus and IUPUI Sports Innovation Institute
Returning to play is something many of us have been looking forward to, but it will come with changes. Due to COVID-19, many tournaments and recreational leagues are having to put new safety measures in place. As an event venue or organization, you will have to do the same. That is why Grand Park Sports Campus in Indiana and IUPUI Sports Innovation Institute teamed up to create a survey on what adaptations players and their families would want and not want.
After receiving thousands of responses, IUPUI SII put together a Kano Model using 12 adaptations (like increased sanitation, health screenings, allowing no spectators, etc.) and seei...

“Each member will get out of [Sports ETA] what they put into it, and are asked to use their passions within our industry to make us stronger.”
That is exactly what Don Dukemineer does. He is the co-chair of the Mentoring & Engagement Committee and the current Sports ETA Treasurer.
Don is also the Director of Sports Development at Decatur-Morgan County Tourism where he is responsible for the sales and development of attracting sporting events, tournaments or competitions to the area. For Don, that entails building relationships with city and county officials, while also spearheading efforts to build new facilities or opportunities to increase economic development within our community.
Don says he’s always willing to help whether that’s giving advice or input on industry best practices or dressing up as a ‘Minion’ at a tradeshow, where he got mistaken for an actual park character.
“For once in my life, maybe I was a ‘re...

Share the knowledge. That’s what Gray Williams wants to do for Sports ETA members, new and not so new.
“I begged, borrowed lots from Sports ETA members to get where we are today,” said Williams. “I am always happy to help anyone who is looking to move towards this.”
All that begging and borrowing has led her to this - the Executive Director of Greenville- Pitt County Sports Commission, a newly formed organization. Launching in July 2019, the commission is just beginning to show how the area is an emerging sports destination. Her role is to lead the sports commission in being a preferred sports destination for events, vendors, visitors and beyond.
“We are a small destination with big city feels and budget friendly hospitality,” Williams said. “We also understand what we are and what we are not. Knowing we have 2,000 hotel rooms puts us in a position where some events could be a fit and some are not.”
Gray suggests partner...

Small businesses strengthen the economy and make the world more vibrant, creating jobs, as well as unique products, services and spaces. Communities depend on small businesses, especially in these trying times.
Many small businesses are hurting right now. Whether you’re making the move to selling and shipping online or you’re ramping up your safety and cleanliness measures to keep customers and employees safe, you’re putting your all into not just surviving but becoming more creative and resilient than ever.
To honor that spirit, FedEx is committing to provide $1 million in grants for small businesses in the U.S. Each grant recipient will receive $5,000, plus a $500 credit from FedEx Office that can be used for printing banners, posters, floor graphics, custom branded boxes, and more.
Sports ETA members can apply starting May 25 at fedex.com/supportsmallgrants. But first, make sure you’re signed up for FedEx discounts through the Sports ETA Shipping Pro...
He was known once as a hero in the small town of Beaver, Oklahoma after he and his cross country team won the Class 2A State Championship. Today, that memory holds a special place in Clay Partain’s heart as his love for sports bleeds into his job.
Clay is the Director of Sports Market Sales at Visit Salt Lake. There, he oversees the sports market for the visitor’s bureau to ensure the growth of sports tourism in Salt Lake, and also the positioning of the CVB in a positive and effective manner amongst local and national partners and clients.
“My role in a large market DMO such as Visit Salt Lake, requires a certain amount of political navigation and strategic relationship building,” said Partain. “In particular when working with our various municipalities, chambers, mayors, parks & rec offices, venues, and our state-level sports commission office. Keeping a healthy partnership with these entities can be very time consuming, but ultimately is...
