If you know anything about Arizona college sports, you’ll know Arizona State University and the University of Arizona is the big rival in the state. This Sports ETA Young Professional and Tucson native went against tradition and attended Arizona State University instead of U of A. It’s a decision Alicia Kentz Griffith says made some of her best sports memories.
“l would have to say my favorite sports memory is hands down attending the Arizona State vs. University of Arizona football games each year with my family,” said Kentz Griffith.

There she markets Tempe as a desirable visitor and event destination along with assisting in securing and promoting sporting events in the area. The Sports Events & Tourism Association (Sports ETA) announced today its 2021 slate of programs, which includes four signature events designed to bring the national membership and sports events and tourism industry leaders together for educational and networking opportunities.
The Women’s Summit, planned for March 31-April 2 hosted in San Antonio, Texas, is developed by top female leaders in the sports events and tourism industry to help women achieve their career goals. The International Waterski Championships are coming back to the USA. The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) recently announced the 2021 competition will be held in Lake County, Florida.
More than 200 water skiers representing 35 countries are expected to travel to Jack Travers Water Ski School October 11-17, 2021.
“We are thrilled to host the 75th Anniversary edition of the IWWF World Waterski Championships in Florida, the birth place and waterski capital of the world, at one of the premier venues so athletes can perform to the best of their abilities.” said Jose Antonio Perez Priego, President of IWWF.

A fishing tournament with a big prize purse is moving north. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Jimmy Johnson’s Atlantic City “Quest for the Ring” Championship Fishing Week will be held next summer at the Golden Nugget Atlantic City.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Fish Hard Events to bring this world-class event to our seaside destination,” said Larry Sieg, president and CEO of Meet AC and the Atlantic City Sports Commission, to The Press of Atlantic City. “We are well-positioned to host these type of outdoor sporting events that encourage new visitation and increase economic impact to our destination.”
The July 12-17 tournament will include a kickoff party, three days of leave-it-out-on-the-waters tournament competition, a charitable celebrity pro-am day, and much more. General entry starts at $5,000, with the prize purse being $1 million.
The yearly tournament had previously been held in South Florida.

Quidditch may not be a sport you know much about, but Laura Porth and the team at U.S. Quidditch is trying to change that.
Laura is the Director of Events & Partnership at U.S. Quidditch. She oversees all aspects of U.S. Quidditch's 8 annual championships, including the bidding process, budgeting, volunteers, and logistics. As well as creating and managing partnership opportunities. Laura says her goal is to bring quidditch to new cities, especially on the west coast.
As for her own personal future, Laura says she loves to travel, host large scale events, and getting to know others in the sports events & tourism industry.
“I really love going to the conferences and seeing and hanging out with everyone,” Porth said. “I especially love the Women's Summit and getting to go to the Women's Final Four, and US Sports Congress and getting to play a round of golf with an LPGA player.”

Sports Tourism Analytics Certificate Kicks Off As First Course Offering
CINCINNATI (November 16, 2020) - The Sports Tourism Learning Institute, the education hub for Sports ETA, will serve as the leading resource for the sports events and tourism industry. Curriculum will include topical webinars (called “Power Plays”), industry certificate courses (called “Certificate Playbook” courses), and future expanded credential programs (called “Front Office Education”).
Sports ETA is partnering with 4FRONT, a leading sports innovation consultancy, to offer the Sports Tourism Analytics Certificate, beginning November 16 as part of the organization’s Sports Tourism Learning Institute.

Big sporting events may have been cancelled this year, but the sports events and tourism world is looking towards the future. Many large events have RFPs out right now for events in upcoming years.
As a Sports ETA member, you have access to our database of Event RFPs at your fingertips. Right now, there are nearly 75 events posted which are actively looking for RFPs.
Sports ETA members can look at the details of each Event RFP right on our website to learn what each event is looking for in a host city. If you determine an event is right for your area, you can submit a bid by following the instructions in each RFP.
