Sports ETA, in collaboration with the Northstar Meetings Group, has engaged Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics company, to conduct an update of the 2019 State of the Industry Report for 2020 and 2021. This important study will provide strategic insights on market size, economic impact, competitive dynamics, and trends within the industry. 2019 was the high-water mark for sports tourism and Sports ETA plans to use the 2020 and 2021 data in evaluating the COVID recovery and industry growth.  This information will be important to future planning for all members of the Sports ETA family with regular data comparisons to validate growth. SportsTravel - Mike Nishi: Lessons from the Chicago Marathon

As chief operating officer of Chicago Event Management, which organizes the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Mike Nishi has been the logistics lead for the race since 1990. What started out with 6,000 runners has grown to the one of the largest marathons in the world. In 2019, more than 45,000 people finished the race. After the 2020 race was forced to go virtual, the 2021 race on October 10 proved to be one of the most challenging in the event’s history as COVID regulations forced event organizers to operate differently than they had in the past. In doing so, the Chicago Marathon became the first of the six Abbott World Marathon Majors to be run in person since the pandemic began. Sports ETA Announces William Knox to Lead Facilities Program Development

CINCINNATI (January 5, 2022) – Sports Events & Tourism Association (Sports ETA) has named William Knox to lead Facilities Program Development. He will oversee the Sports Facilities membership and programming, a growing segment of the general membership. Knox earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Marketing with a minor in Business from Indiana University in 2000. After completing his undergraduate career, he accepted a position as the Director of Sports Marketing with the Bloomington Convention and Visitors Bureau. Later, he became the Director of the Hoosier Sports Corporation. Knox moved to Hamilton County in 2009 to accept the Director of Sports Development position for Hamilton County Tourism INC, where he also served as the Director of the Hamilton County Sports Authority.
