Dr. Susan Blackwood graduated from the University of Nebraska with her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1970. She earned her Masters in Secondary Education in 1973, followed by her Educational Doctorate in Sports Administration in 1984. Between 1970 and 1996, Dr. Blackwood served in a variety of roles, including physical education teacher in Omaha Public Schools, assistant athletic director at the University Interscholastic League, assistant commissioner of the Southwest Athletic Conference, associate director of athletics at the University of Texas, director of athletic relations at Oshman’s Sporting Goods, and adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Austin and Incarnate Word University.
In 1996, Dr. Blackwood started her incredible role as the executive director for San Antonio Sports. She led the overall administration, served as the primary fundraiser, and efforts to target sports as a growth area in San Antonio. During her time at San Antonio she solicited sporting events such as the NCAA Final Four and the 2007 Pan American Games that have had such a positive effect on the economy and provided national media coverage.
