Clay Partain has been a driving force behind the growth of sports-related business at Visit Salt Lake for the past twelve years. Under his guidance, the sports sector has transformed from a minor component into a vital contributor to Visit Salt Lake’s overall achievements. Currently, Clay serves as the Chief Sports Officer for Visit Salt Lake and the Executive Director of Sports Salt Lake.
A dedicated leader within the broader sports tourism industry, Clay plays a key role as the current Chair of the board of directors for the Sports Events and Tourism Association. Within the national association, he additionally serves on the International Sports Strategy Committee, acts as the Hall of Fame Committee Chair, and is a Parks & Recreation Community Leader. His commitment to professional and community development also extends to his service as a board member on ChamberWest and South Valley Chamber.
In 2021, Visit Salt Lake launched Sports Salt Lake to elevate the city’s status as a premier sports destination and to boost visitor spending through sports-related activities. Clay is responsible for all facets of sales, service, marketing, and promotion within the sports division. Under his leadership, the Sports Salt Lake team has grown to include seven dedicated staff members working across sales and operations.
Together with community partners, Sports Salt Lake has successfully hosted a range of prominent events, including the USA Volleyball Salt Lake City Showdown, NCAA 1st & 2nd Rounds, the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup, and the NBA All-Star Game, among others. Looking toward the future of the region's sports landscape, Clay recently spearheaded a strategic partnership between Visit Salt Lake and the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation to foster collaborative cross-promotions and volunteer sharing. A recognized voice in the industry, he frequently shares his insights and expertise at major industry events, including the Sports ETA Symposium.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Clay takes full advantage of Utah's world-class recreation. In the summer, he is often found paddle boarding, and in the winter on the ski slopes. He resides in Salt Lake City, where he enjoys spending his free time with his loved ones.
