Janis Burke
Janis Burke is a recognized leader in global sports governance, major event strategy, and community impact. She was recently named Chief Sports Officer at the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority while also serving as the Chair of International Sport & Strategy for Sports ETA. Burke was formerly with the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority, where she was the first and only woman to ever hold that leadership role since the organization’s inception in 1997. Over her 18-year tenure in Houston, she was responsible for overseeing $1.2B of bond debt service for the professional sports stadiums while also bidding for and hosting high-profile events such as Olympic Trials, World Championships, NFL Super Bowl, NCAA Men’s Final Four, MLB World Baseball Classic, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup amongst others. These successes amounted to more than $3B in economic impact to the destination during her tenure. In 2024, Burke was inducted into the Sports ETA Hall of Fame and has been recognized by numerous other organizations over the years for her contributions to the sports tourism industry.
