Marty Dobek

Marty Dobek was named Deputy Director of the Detroit Sports Commission in July 2021 after serving as marketing and communications manager for the DSC since 2017. Dobek joined the DSC in December 2011 as a marketing and communications specialist. As Deputy Director, Dobek has a wide range of duties, including working closely with the executive director to plan, develop, and coordinate the DSC's annual plan while overseeing staff and support personnel regarding budget, events, business development, marketing and communications. In addition, he is currently serving as Detroit’s primary liaison working with the National Football League for the 2024 NFL Draft in the Motor City.
During his time with the DSC, Dobek has helped increase Detroit’s profile nationally and internationally amongst prominent event rights holders, including the professional sports leagues, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the U.S. National Governing Bodies. His work helped the DSC secure some of the nation’s most high-profile events, such as the 2024 NFL Draft, 2027 NCAA® Men's Final Four®, WWE SummerSlam 2023 USA Boxing National Qualifier and eight future United States Golf Association (USGA) championships, including two men's and two women's U.S. Opens.
Dobek came to the sports commission from the Wayne State University athletics department, where he served in the Sports Information Department from 2010-11. His professional career began in the Detroit market, where he spent time interning with the Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Free Press.
Dobek received a Bachelor of Arts in public relations from Wayne State University in 2009.
Dobek and his wife Anne, also a WSU graduate and currently a clinical exercise physiologist with Michigan Medicine, have two dogs, Lee and Lyla.
