Keeping Your Kids Safe Online During COVID-19

 Posted on: April 30 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought life to a screeching halt, particularly in the sports community. Competitions, practices, and in-person training sessions have been canceled or postponed. While athletic teams are benched, many coaches are taking advantage of online tools to keep athletes engaged and at peak performance. As many of you already know, online communication poses unique safety risks. Youth and people with disabilities already experience high rates of abuse[1], and increased time online may heighten their risk. Parents may be relaxing their existing rules for screen time and internet usage. Younger athletes may have more unsupervised technology time. Athletes of all ages may start using new apps and platforms or using familiar ones differently. The U.S. Center for SafeSport created a new guide, Keeping Your Kids Safe Online During COVID-19, to help coaches, parents, and athletes navigate the online environment. The Center recommends that all adults who work with minor...

The Pulse Recap: Advocacy

 Posted on: April 22 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many challenges to the sports tourism industry. In The Pulse, we have been asking members about these hardships and what the future may hold. Last week, we asked about the challenges of advocating for sports events and tourism. The top four answers were… Budget & Funding Post COVID-19 Protocol Uncertainty of the future Partnerships Many sports commissions and event organizers are facing a decrease in funds due to COVID-19. Some who were surveyed said they are having to “justify” their spending. Others are faced with questions of how to plan for sporting events when no one is sure of the timeline or protocol after this pandemic has passed. There are resources out there. The Pulse asked those who took the survey what resources they are utilizing. Many said Sports ETA (and we thank you for that), and other sports commissions and organizations. Others are pulling their resources with government entities and Sta...

The way we work, play, consume news may never be same again

 Posted on: April 13 2020
The way we work, play and consume has been rattled by efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19. What we’ve learned through research and data shows that stay-at-home orders have touched nearly everything (except for our faces). Since New Year’s Day, Game Day Communications has been monitoring the ever-evolving impact, optimizing technology and instituting rapid response teams. We’re working virtually hand-in-hand with our partners, especially those hit hardest (Film Cincinnati, Flying Pig Marathon, Frisch’s Big Boy, Funky’s Catering Events, Pure Romance, Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment, Sports ETA, Summerfair, Taste of Cincinnati, The Banks, among others), to tailor game plans and secure local, regional and national coverage of their custom messages. We’ve watched consumption of news grow dramatically, especially television news and daily news conferences from our governors and elected officials. According to Nielsen: 52% of us are watching...
