If you know anything about Arizona college sports, you’ll know Arizona State University and the University of Arizona is the big rival in the state. This Sports ETA Young Professional and Tucson native went against tradition and attended Arizona State University instead of U of A. It’s a decision Alicia Kentz Griffith says made some of her best sports memories. “l would have to say my favorite sports memory is hands down attending the Arizona State vs. University of Arizona football games each year with my family,” said Kentz Griffith. International Waterskiing Competition returns to USA

The International Waterski Championships are coming back to the USA. The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) recently announced the 2021 competition will be held in Lake County, Florida. More than 200 water skiers representing 35 countries are expected to travel to Jack Travers Water Ski School October 11-17, 2021. “We are thrilled to host the 75th Anniversary edition of the IWWF World Waterski Championships in Florida, the birth place and waterski capital of the world, at one of the premier venues so athletes can perform to the best of their abilities.” said Jose Antonio Perez Priego, President of IWWF.  “As the National Governing Body for the sport in the United States, we are thrilled to host this global event here in Florida,” said Tim Cullen, President of USA Water Ski & Wake Sports. “For competitive three-event water skiers this is the marquee event on the competition schedule.” Having the opportunity t...

Quidditch may not be a sport you know much about, but Laura Porth and the team at U.S. Quidditch is trying to change that. Laura is the Director of Events & Partnership at U.S. Quidditch. She oversees all aspects of U.S. Quidditch's 8 annual championships, including the bidding process, budgeting, volunteers, and logistics. As well as creating and managing partnership opportunities. Laura says her goal is to bring quidditch to new cities, especially on the west coast. Big sporting events may have been cancelled this year, but the sports events and tourism world is looking towards the future. Many large events have RFPs out right now for events in upcoming years. As a Sports ETA member, you have access to our database of Event RFPs at your fingertips. Right now, there are nearly 75 events posted which are actively looking for RFPs. Sports ETA members can look at the details of each Event RFP right on our website to learn what each event is looking for in a host city. If you determine an event is right for your area, you can submit a bid by following the instructions in each RFP. We hope you use our Event RFP Database to help you secure events in the future. We wish our members luck in submitting for each RFP.

Young Professional Spotlight: Luchie Javelosa

One of the goals this Sport ETA Young Professional has is to survive 2020 and bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of us are with you on this one Luchie. Meet Luchie Javelosa. She has been in the sports events and tourism industry for five years and is currently the sports sales manager at Visit Tucson. In her role, Luchie is tasked with marketing the Tucson region as a premier sports destination through working with local facilities and businesses, developing bid proposals and presentations, and managing social media platforms. In the Tucson area, Luchie has enjoyed showcasing the city to new and returning visitors. “Particularly one recent memory is setting up a skills clinic for the local youth rugby club with the Spain 7s Men’s National Team earlier this year,” said Javelosa. “It’s little moments like these that create a lasting memory and impact for our local youth and community.” In the future, Luchie hopes to be able t...
