Adults need a field day too. Why don’t you plan it?

 Posted on: August 28 2019
Remember the fun you had on Field Day during elementary school? The day you spent outside playing fun games against other classrooms? Don’t we all need an adult field day? Louisville Sports Commission agrees. That’s why they have brought back their Corporate Games. Lisa Mills, the Director of Marketing and Public Relations, is letting us in on the benefits of hosting your own corporate games. The Louisville Corporate Games has a variety of contests. There are bracketed events like dodgeball and volleyball, to competitive games including a water balloon toss and a parallel parking challenge, and good sports activities like a food drive and tailgate contest. “While our corporate games have competitive elements, there also is an emphasis on encouraging participation among companies and employees with different levels of athleticism,” says Mills. The 3rd annual event had 45 companies participate this year, which is more than double the number of companies t...

Renewing a Dallas Football Tradition

 Posted on: August 21 2019
With the school year getting started for many across the country, the Dallas Sports Commission is gearing up for the Cotton Bowl Stadium Prep Showcase. The 4th annual event will pin eight of the top Dallas-area 6-A football programs against each other. It’s known that Texans love their high school football and this Showcase highlights that love. Seven of the eight teams competing this year made it to the playoffs in 2018. One of the most highly anticipated games for the 2019 season is when Denton Guyer takes on Cedar Hill. Both teams are ranked in the Top 10 of The Dallas Morning News’ pre-season All-Area Top 25. The Cotton Bowl Stadium Prep Showcase happens September 6 and 7. Good luck to all the teams and the Dallas Sports Commission. View full press release from Dallas Sports.

Tampa gears up for 2021 Super Bowl

 Posted on: August 19 2019
Tampa, Florida is looking forward to 2021. That’s the year the city will host the Super Bowl for the fifth time, the last being in 2009. A lot has changed since then, but there is more to be done. According to Fox 13 in Tampa, new hotels, venues, and restaurants have been added over the last 10 years, along with the Riverwalk across 2.6 miles of the city. Tampa is also transforming its waterfront with a new project called Water Street. It will be a community of retail, residential and hotels, culture and education, which the city says will bring in more money than in 2009. Visit Tampa, Tampa Bay Sports Commission and others are not stopping there. They are looking at other high-profile events and take lessons from them so Tampa is ready for its own event. “We try to take what worked really well, and we try to make sure that each of them snowball,” said Rob Higgins, Executive Director at the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. Organizers said they want to make sur...

The Chief Executive Summit Experience

 Posted on: August 8 2019
Presidents, CEOs, Executive Directors: It’s almost time. Time for the 2019 Chief Executive Summit. This summit is designed to equip CEOs of sports destinations and sports events with the tools necessary to advance the mission of their organization. Industry experts will be there to talk about topics such as office culture, crisis management, achieving goals and more. Scott Dupree, Executive Director for the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, joined us at last year’s Chief Executive Summit. He tells us the content was exceptional. “I felt, and from what I gathered from the other attendees, that each of the featured speakers really hit the mark in terms of providing information and analysis that was pertinent and relevant to what we do in our jobs as CEOs of sports tourism organizations,” said Dupree. One of the topics that hit home with Dupree and many of our other guests last year was Jason Willford’s presentation on the Culture Index. With Willford&rs...

Spice up your Sponsorship

 Posted on: August 7 2019
Feeling stuck trying to attract sponsors to invest in your event? It’s time to spice up your sponsorship practices. Event Manager Blog has a few suggestions on how to bring in more sponsors in a unique way. Raise your game. As you plan an event, think of unique ways sponsors could fit into the event like a lounge where you can partner up with a furniture store. The store brings in their furniture and guests could purchase items right there, and on the flip side, your guests will have a comfortable space to relax. The same could be done with centerpieces and a flower shop or a signature drink and a local bar or brewery. This can help when potential sponsors are looking for a way to show off their products. Bring in the tech world. Online marketing and ads have become a difficult way for some events to obtain satisfactory sponsorships. That’s where Event Manager Blog says augmented reality can help. Think about customized filters or frames for apps like Snapchat or Face...
