As tourism recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, sports commissions and sports-focused DMOs and Sports Commissions will need to find alternative funding mechanisms outside of hotel occupancy taxes to rebuild. Tourism Improvement Districts (TIDs) are a compelling solution, as these special self-assessments on tourism-related businesses generate dedicated revenue to bid for, host, and market sports events.
