Cowart Sports Events (CSE) celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Title IX on Memorial Day weekend during their Battle at The Rock youth softball tournament in Little Rock, Arkansas.
To commemorate the event, one softball complex each day was dedicated to only have female umpires on the fields. The first day of the tournament, the 12U bracket was able to witness all female officials, and on the second day of the tournament, the 14U bracket was able to witness all female officials. Many comments were heard on both days from players, coaches, and parents that the girls really enjoyed seeing more women calling their games. One comment went as far as to thank the tournament staff for putting the event together and showcasing the women that serve as role models for the young players.
Banners were hung on the backstop fences in honor of the event to remind us all how far we have come as women in sports and also to serve as a reminder that there is more wor...

Building Partnerships: IFs Have The Floor!
Cities are the treasures chests where most sports events are organized. Hosting sports events implies high-level facilities as well as a thoughtful events strategy linked with tourism, economic development, mobility policies, environment concerns, and legacy objectives. But nothing is possible without strong partnerships with sports federations and event organizers. The recent period has deeply disrupted both the existing benchmarks and the anticipated schedules.
What is the future of major event bidding and hosting? Are rights holders increasingly tending to have a “Continuous Dialogue” with the cities rather than launching a bidding process?
This session aims to answer the above questions by providing concrete examples and best practices from the perspective of IF’s, as well as the cities.

“We applaud the work of Congress in passing the latest pandemic aid bill to bring support to American households and businesses, including the sports events and tourism industry. We thank our elected officials for considering the industry information we actively shared throughout the process along with our partners, U.S. Travel, ASAE and Destinations International. This funding is vitally important because it now supports our city’s convention and visitors bureaus and other organizations leading the travel and tourism industry.
The members of Sports Events and Tourism Association, the nation’s authority and the trade association for sports events and tourism, are comprised of nearly every city destination in America who seeks to build new revenue for their communities through tourism. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for communities through sports events and tourism. This tourism sub-segment not only provides incremental taxes and direct revenue, it pr...
As we put a bow on 2019 and roll into 2020, there are a number of areas we are watching in the sports events and tourism industry. Below is a list of the top 10 trends to watch in 2020 from Sports ETA:
10. Continued growth in the sports department of Destination Marketing Organizations.
More and more CVB/DMO organization leadership is realizing and investing in the ROI and ROM of a strong sports tourism segment. The results of this value will continue to be championed by Sports ETA. Stay tuned for more as we launch a new and improved State of the Industry Report at the 2020 Sports ETA Symposium in Kansas City.
9. The increasing role of parks and recreation departments in sports events and tourism initiatives.
Parks and recreation departments continue to play an integral role in the sports events and tourism landscape. We expect this trend to continue into 2020, particularly as youth sport specialization is scrutinized and communities see the opportunity for recreational spo...
