At the 2026 Chief Executive Summit, Sports ETA welcomed its first student participant through our new Student Enrichment Program, presented by Tanger—an initiative designed to connect emerging professionals with industry leaders through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
While the program was created to give students a closer look at careers in sports events and tourism, the experience became something even more impactful.
Keva Johnson arrived expecting to observe. Instead, she found herself welcomed into conversations, encouraged to participate in executive roundtable discussions, and treated as a valued member of the community.
"The Chief Executive Summit exceeded every expectation I had. What stood out the most was how welcoming and inclusive everyone was. They encouraged me to jump into roundtable discussions and share my thoughts, which made me feel more like a peer than a student."
Throughout the day, Keva met professionals from across the industry, asking questions, learning from their experiences, and gaining insight into career paths that simply aren't visible from a classroom.
One relationship, in particular, stood out.
Paired with mentor Anthony Terling, Keva received guidance, encouragement, and introductions that made navigating the Summit both comfortable and meaningful.
"He offered valuable insight, guidance, and networking opportunities while making me feel comfortable and confident throughout the entire experience. His willingness to invest in me made the day even more impactful."
For Keva, one of the biggest takeaways wasn't a presentation or keynote—it was experiencing the value of authentic professional relationships.
"You can study networking and professional communication in a classroom, but you truly don't learn how to build meaningful connections until you're immersed in an environment like this."
The experience also reinforced something many Sports ETA members already know: the future of our industry depends on creating opportunities for emerging professionals to learn alongside today's leaders.
By the end of the Summit, Keva left with renewed confidence, stronger career aspirations, and a clear sense of belonging within the sports events and tourism industry.
"This experience definitely strengthened my career goals. It reassured me that the sports industry is where I belong."
When asked what she would tell future applicants, her answer captured exactly why Sports ETA is investing in this initiative:
"Go for it! I never thought I would be selected for this opportunity, but those few hours were truly life-changing. Be yourself, exude confidence, and take advantage of every opportunity that's presented to you. You never know where one conversation or connection might lead."
Keva summarized her experience in three words:
Inspiring. Empowering. Transformative.
As Sports ETA expands the Student Enrichment Program to future events, our goal remains simple: create opportunities where students can learn from industry leaders, build lasting professional relationships, and begin careers that will shape the future of sports events and tourism.
Because sometimes, one conversation really can change a career.
