It is with great disappointment that we must share an important update regarding the 2026 Chief Executive Summit in Columbus.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine declared a state of emergency earlier today, and city and county officials have issued strong warnings regarding grave risks to public safety associated with Winter Storm Fern. In addition, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office cautioned the possibility of declaring a Level 3 Snow Emergency, meaning roadways are closed and travel is prohibited unless absolutely necessary.

Based on these conditions and out of an abundance of caution, Sports ETA has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 Chief Executive Summit.

This decision is especially heartbreaking given the enthusiasm surrounding this year’s event. We were truly looking forward to gathering in Columbus for a Summit that had achieved record registration turnout, reflecting the strength, engagement, and momentum of our Chief Executive community.

This was not a decision we took lightly.

“Our Chief Executive Summit is built on bringing leaders together in a meaningful way, and we were incredibly excited for the conversations and connections planned for Columbus,” said John David, President & CEO of Sports ETA. “With record attendance expected, this was shaping up to be one of our most impactful Summits to date. However, when officials are warning of grave safety risks and travel is restricted, we have a responsibility to put our Sports ETA family first. While we are deeply disappointed, the safety of our attendees, speakers, partners, and staff must always be our top priority.”

We are grateful for the leadership and partnership of our host destination during this challenging situation.

“The Greater Columbus Sports Commission was proud to host Sports ETA and its Chief Executive Summit, and we share in the disappointment of not being able to welcome attendees as planned,” said Linda Logan, President & CEO of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. “With Winter Storm Fern presenting serious safety concerns and travel restrictions in place, we fully support this decision and appreciate the understanding of the Sports ETA community.”

Local and state leaders have underscored the severity of the storm and its impact on travel and safety. “This is a once-in-a-decade winter storm that presents grave risks to our community,” said Mayor Ginther. “Emergency declarations and travel restrictions are necessary to protect lives and ensure first responders can do their jobs.”

What this means for you:

  • Hotel Reservations: If you booked within the official Summit room block, the Hilton has been notified of the cancellation — you will receive a cancellation notice directly from the hotel later today. Be on the lookout for this cancellation email and if you do not receive notice, please check directly with the Hilton.

    • Attendees who booked accommodations outside the official Summit room block should contact the hotel directly regarding their reservation.

Once the storm has passed and conditions have stabilized, Sports ETA will meet with the Hilton Columbus and the Greater Columbus Sports Commission to review available options and determine appropriate next steps. We will share additional information as it becomes available.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this causes. We know how much this Summit means to our Chief Executive community, and we truly appreciate your understanding during circumstances beyond our control.
